Introducing Canada’s newest print magazine – a celebration of women entrepreneurship.

The Rural Collective (TRC) would like to announce the launch of Trailblazher, a 100-page print publication celebrating the spirit of women entrepreneurs throughout rural Canada.

Launched this past November, Trailblazher sold-out its first print-run within eight days, and at time of this release have sold an additional 60 per cent of its second run. The magazine is also recording near-daily growth in annual subscriptions and in its online social media presence.

Created by the Alberta-based mother-daughter duo, Jan and Erin Johnson, Trailblazher aims to inspire and support female-led small businesses by creating opportunities for exposure and providing guidance in entrepreneurship from others who have successfully navigated this field.

Its pages and social media presence celebrate rural life and hopes to connect with those who can recognize the beauty that comes in choosing this lifestyle and the resilience it takes to create success in balancing a rural life and business.

In the premier edition, women were featured from nearly every province in an array of businesses that included fashion, self-care, artisans, entertainment hosts, social media wavemakers, farmers, and life skills coaching. Readers were introduced to intimate stories of how these entrepreneurs began their journey and how they have curated success in times of turbulence.

Jan Johnson: “We are thrilled with the excitement around the magazine. We are blown away by the talent and perseverance of women in our rural communities and we recognize they have a pioneering spirit that continues to grow stronger as the economy becomes more challenging. At the Rural Collective we want to connect, uplift and promote this generation of influencers and community-building entrepreneurs.”

Jan and Erin Johnson established TRC in April 2020 right before Covid-19 hit Canada, undeterred by this obstacle, the team relied on their 20 years of entrepreneurial experience. The goal of creating a quality print publication had been a shared dream for a decade - and the virus wasn’t going to stop them. With a solid background in business perseverance, the Johnsons believed Trailblazher could become a tool to unify others and inspire the can-do spirit pioneers in Canada have always been known for.

“We could all see the economy changing, but we were made for times like this – and that’s the message we wanted to put out to women,” says Erin Johnson. “What we have to offer is needed now more than ever. We want to help women ensure their income streams and we need these stories to be shared. There is no one simple way to do this [be an entrepreneur].”

The Johnsons are working on the spring edition, which will be released March 1, 2021, and would like to invite rural women entrepreneurs to reach out to them if they have a story to share. For sneak-peaks at the inside of the premier edition, readers can head over to the publication’s social media pages on Facebook or Instagram @trailblazhermagazine. To learn more about TRC, readers can visit www.theruralcollective.com. The Johnsons would sincerely appreciate the chance to speak to podcasters and media about their goals for Trailblazher and their entrepreneurial journey as a family-team.
